Welcome to the new-look website for the New Zealand Treasury

The web site has been comprehensively re-designed to allow the Treasury to work towards compliance with New Zealand Web Standards and Recommendations for public sector web sites, in particular to allow disabled and low-bandwith users ease of access. But the review has also provided an opportunity to improve the site’s general technical effectiveness, content and design for all users.

The Treasury recognises its internet presence is an increasingly important 'window on the Treasury world' for both our key stakeholders and the general public. The re-designed site aims to provide better accessibility and usability for all visitors, with an emphasis on improved navigation and clear and concise language and design.

For visitors, the key features of the new site are:

More up-to-date design and more user-friendly content

Content has been audited, reviewed and updated and, where necessary, re-drafted. This remains an on-going focus for improvement. Language has been simplified where possible, particularly at 'discovery level' (home pages and underlying introductory pages) and the design of the site better reflects the Treasury’s current corporate image and branding.

Improved navigation structure and finding aids

Navigation has been simplified, to provide easier and more varied means of access to information for audiences with varying levels of interest and specialisation. In particular:

  • Information is organised to allow ‘navigation shortcuts’ by topic, theme and by specialist audience. Home page visitors can opt to search for Treasury information in a number of different ways, depending on their level of specialisation. For example, journalists might use a specialised information for media link to access Treasury website information likely to be of particular interest, as well as scroll through the latest information releases or search for information by topic or Treasury work area. In the main, navigation menus are also more self-explanatory to a general audience (for example, 'government finances' instead of 'crown financial statements' or 'fiscal').
  • Improved search tools for Treasury publications. This includes a general A-Z title index for all formal Treasury publications, but also separate A-Z indexes for Research and Policy publications (by subject, title, JEL number and by author).
