Groups and Managers of the Treasury

The Treasury is divided into four groups and two stand-alone units. The Secretary and the Deputy Secretaries form the Treasury's Strategic Leadership Team (SLT).
The Crown Company Monitoring Advisory Unit (CCMAU) is a stand-alone unit within Treasury.

Secretary to the Treasury John Whitehead announced changes to the agency's leadership structure on September 3.
A reorganisation of this will result in nine positions being disestablished and eight new positions being created. There will also be changes in the way Treasury work groups are organised.
In addition, all of the monitoring responsibilities currently held by the Treasury and the Crown Company Monitoring Unit (CCMAU) will be consolidated into one unit inside the Treasury.

The appointment of the Executive Director of the National Infrastructure Unit was announced on October 7.

Secretary to the Treasury: John Whitehead
John Whitehead was appointed Secretary to the Treasury in April 2003, having acted in the role since September 2002.
Mr Whitehead joined the Treasury in 1982, subsequently filling positions as Director of Macroeconomic Policy and Director of Tax Policy and International Economics. He was appointed Deputy Secretary and Branch Manager of Corporate Services in 1996.
Between 1985 and 1992, he worked as an Economic Advisor in the Prime Minister's office, and as a Minister (Economic) at the New Zealand High Commission in London.
Before joining the Treasury, Mr Whitehead worked in the Statistics Department and was Deputy Director of the Labour Party Research Unit. He holds a Master of Commerce (Hons) in Economics and a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Canterbury.
