When applying to Treasury I really didn’t know what to expect, so I was surprised to find how fast-paced the work is and how friendly and willing to help everyone is. The most enjoyable facet of working at Treasury is knowing that the work I do makes a visible difference to the organisation.
I would recommend Treasury and the Economics Performance Group to any graduate looking to get a great start to their professional career.

As a law and arts graduate with no economics training, I was surprised by how inspired and enjoyable it is working with people that are analytical thinkers.
The Treasury culture is very welcoming and friendly with plenty of social events to get involved with.
I recommend Treasury for any graduate from any background ... it’s great to work for an organisation that has significant influence on the ‘guy who writes the cheques.’

Coming from a geographical and political background, I never really had an interest in economics and finance, but I love working for the Treasury! You get great support plus work with people from a variety of backgrounds from Ministers and leading economic thinkers, through to the Police and Customs.
Working for an organisation whose mission statement is “working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders” provides a pretty good reason to go to work in the morning.

With a background in music, I was surprised when Treasury expressed their interest in me. I soon realised my studies had given me many skills that I could use in any work environment - from being focused and disciplined to remaining calm when meeting senior government officials.
My advice to you is – it’s not always about the content of what you’re studying that counts; it’s what you learn from it, and how you put it into practice.

My studies in English, Arts, International Development and Relations led me to a research role in Treasury. I’m really enjoying the diversity of my work. I work on everything from skills policy to social mobility issues.
One of my favourite aspects of Treasury life is the chance to work on the big, long-term issues that impact on every aspect of society. No matter what your qualification, there is a job for you at Treasury.

Coming from an economics background, my job at the Treasury has lived up to all my expectations. The work is challenging, varied and always current. The Treasury workplace has a supportive team environment and has a commitment to excellence that is shared by all the people working here.
There is also plenty of opportunity to move around the various areas of the Treasury too – I couldn’t ask for a better place to work!

When I started at Treasury, I was in the action straight away - operating right at the heart of the action. I am responsible for forecasting private consumption and residential investment and, on a day-to-day basis, working to increase forecast accuracy by developing new models, and keeping up to date with development.
If you’re someone who keeps an eye on the economy, then the Treasury is the perfect place for you to build your career.
