What are the Government's main areas of Expenditure?

The three largest areas of Government expenditure for the 2008/09 financial year were:

  • Social security and welfare: $19,382 million
  • Health: $12,368 million
  • Education: $11,455 million

These figures are taken from the Analysis of Expenses of the Statement of Financial Performance in the Financial Statements of the Government of New Zealand for the Year Ended 30 June 2009.
