One word I would use to describe the Treasury is inspiring. The Treasury offers you so much regardless of what you want to do.
You could try out environmental policy, health policy, macroeconomic research, financial market regulation - the possibilities are endless. You can have so many experiences without leaving the organisation.
Since studying economics in my first year of university, I always wanted to work for the Treasury. It is one of the best places to start your career because of how involved and across the all areas of the economy it is.
As a macroeconomist, we look at a range of models and data but we get the opportunity to travel around the country and talk to businesses to see if the data we are seeing makes sense in the real world. When I was at university, I never imagined I would be able to talk to the Chief Financial Officer of a big business in my first year of working.
I think the Treasury is the best place to start even if you do not want to be an economist, as the diversity of the work offered sets up a range of different career pathways.
