Gardner Brown is Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Washington. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1964 and has taught at the University of Cambridge, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and Stanford University among others. Professor Brown serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and the Journal of Marine Resource Economics and is a University Fellow for Resources for the Future. He specializes in natural resource economics and applied microeconomic theory. Some of his most recent research projects include fisheries, African National Parks, antibiotic use, and endogenous population growth. Professor Brown is a pioneer in the areas of environmental valuation, biodiversity conservation and the economics of resistance.
