Dr David Gruen

Dr Gruen will talk on the points in common and of the differences between the Australian Treasury's wellbeing framework and the New Zealand Treasury's living standards framework, and  the Australian Treasury's experience with having a formal framework.  This will include a discussion of how policy advisers may want to consider distributional issues in light of these frameworks.  

David Gruen is the Executive Director of Macroeconomic Group at Australian Treasury. He joined the Treasury in January 2003. Before that, he was Head of Economic Research Department at the Reserve Bank of Australia from May 1998 to December 2002. He worked at the Reserve Bank for thirteen years, in the Economic Analysis and Economic Research Departments. Before joining the Reserve Bank, he worked as a research scientist in the Research School of Physical Sciences at the Australian National University. With financial support from a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship, he was visiting lecturer in the Economics Department and the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University from August 1991 to June 1993.  He holds PhD degree in physics from Cambridge University, England and in economics from the Australian National University.
