Establishing an Independent Fiscal Institution

Issue date:
Thursday, 7 March 2019

The Government recently consulted on the proposal to establish an Independent Fiscal Institution (IFI) as part of New Zealand’s fiscal policy framework. It sought thoughts on the various roles and functions an IFI could play in the New Zealand context, and on what institutional model might be appropriate. Public submissions closed on 24 October 2018.

The Government is now considering the submissions as it develops its final proposal, and has publicly released these, along with a Summary of Submissions that provides an overview of the themes and suggestions raised by submitters.
