What is this seminar about:
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance is launching a social investment theme to the Treasury Guest Lecture Series. You will increasingly be hearing the words 'social investment'; which is a critical priority for the Government. Social sector agencies and the Treasury are working together to take forward social investment. Come to this seminar to hear what the Minister means when he talks about social investment and his vision for transforming the way that the social sector helps New Zealanders make a better future. The Treasury will be hosting a number of seminars in the coming months to build understanding of social investment and to stimulate innovation in social investment. Look out for guest lectures from a range of speakers including social service providers and charities, local or central public servants, academics and business people.
About the Hon Bill English:
Hon Bill English is the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance (roles he has held since 2008) and the Minister Responsible for Housing New Zealand Corporation. He was first elected to Parliament in 1990 as MP for the Wallace electorate (later re-named Clutha-Southland) and served as the local MP for 24 years until he became a list MP in 2014.
He completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Otago University, followed by a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English Literature at Victoria University in Wellington.
Mr English has held ministerial posts in regulatory reform, education, health, revenue and finance and he was leader of the National Party from October 2001 to October 2003.
Bill's wife Mary is a General Practitioner and they have 6 children.
