Treasury Announces Deputy Chief Executive Appointment

The Treasury today announced the appointment of Vicky Robertson as Deputy Chief Executive.

Vicky is currently Deputy Secretary of the Growth and Public Services portfolio. As DCE, she will have overall responsibility for the Treasury’s commercial, financial and corporate operations, and will play a leading part in the Treasury’s Central Agency role.

"I am delighted to appoint someone of Vicky’s calibre into this important position," said Treasury Secretary and Chief Executive Gabriel Makhlouf.

“Vicky has earned this promotion through her impressive performance over 14 years at the Treasury. She has proven leadership abilities, extensive experience in the public service, and a passion for change.”

Vicky has worked in a variety of policy areas, with roles ranging from policy development on Kiwi Saver legislation to heading an interdepartmental group on the 2005 review of New Zealand’s climate change policies. She was the first woman to lead the Treasury’s tax unit and in 2010, was seconded to the United Nations Development Programme in New York, where her brief was to contribute to a structural review of its business model. 

“I am excited to be taking up this position at a time of immense change both globally and domestically. The Treasury’s challenge is to help secure sustainable economic growth that will lift living standards for New Zealanders,” Ms Robertson said.

“It is also our role as custodian and steward of the public service to help urgently drive reforms that will allow us to deliver better public services for New Zealanders at lower cost. I am enormously proud to be working for an organisation that is passionate about what it does and focused on delivering the best advice that it can.”

Vicky is a mother to two teenage boys, and has a law degree from Victoria University. She is a former Black Sticks hockey representative and is an avid mountain biker, competing at national level. 

She replaces Andrew Kibblewhite, who left the Treasury in June to become Chief Executive of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Vicky takes up her new role with immediate effect.
